GTA Centerfire Revolver Match October 18, 2025 date change

The Greenport Tactical Association is hosting a center fire revolver match on Sunday, October 19, 2025. Sign-in opens at 9 am with a safety brief at 9:45 am, and the match starts at 10 am.

This is a center fire match, not rim-fire. The targets will be a mix of paper and steel. No heavy calibers, perpetrators, steel jackets, etc. that could damage the steel. The range owner has the final approval on ammunition.

The maximum round count is 114, but less if you shoot it clean. There will be eight stages with a maximum of 18 rounds on a stage. The stages are all handgun distances except one. You will have a chance to shoot at 95-ish yards. All stages will be shot from the “low ready”. Reloads can be carried or per-staged. There will be movement, seated, and weak-hand shooting. We will not be using the shoot-house.

There are two classes:
Production / Factory, which includes iron sights, 5 or 6 round cylinders, and speed loaders.
Open, which includes non-iron sights such as red dots, more than 6 round cylinders, moon clips, and custom match guns.
The match director has the final say on classification.

We are using IDPA scoring, time plus points down.

Cost: $15 per gun.

Shawn McKimie had so much fun last Thursday, he is going to run Dave Pressler’s fun match again!
BTW, there were 89 ‘runs’ so there was a LOT of fun, plus great weather!
L range. Should be set up by 4:00. Also revolver friendly!
3 targets, at 10 yards, 12 shots, 1 reload.
CoF:
1 shot on left target
2 shots on center target
3 shots on right target
Reload from slide lock,
1 shot on right target
2 shots on center target
3 shots on left target
Each target should have 4 hits.

GTA Rifle Night Invitation

Wednesday, Oct 15, 5:00 PM

You’re invited to GTA’s informal centerfire rifle night on Oct 15, starting at 5pm, with safety instructions and gear requirements.

Note

  • Sign in at the classroom for GTA rifle night.
  • bring a 100 rounds rifle and 25 pistol.
  • wear a chemical glow stick to wear.
 
GTA will run an informal centerfire rifle night, Wednesday, Oct 15 on the container range.  Please sign in at the classroom.  We will start at 5pm and run until after dark (sunset 6:45).

First, safety:

We run a cold range with instructions to load at the firing line.  All rifles will utilize an empty chamber indicator (available in the classroom for $1).

To participate or watch you will need a chemical glow stick to wear.  We cannot have dark figures moving in the darkness.

The evening will be run with a match-like format, one shooter at a time, everyone repairing targets. As it is informal, if you choose, you can record your time and score.

Note:  You are welcome to observe and participate at your comfort level.  We are here to have safe fun.

Gear:

Round count.  This is not a shoot ’til you drop event.  I’d bring a 100 rounds rifle and 25 pistol. You’ll take ammo home.

Centerfire rifle, shoulder strap will make it easier, two magazines.  We will use paper, so any bullet configuration is acceptable.  Gun or tactical light for after dark shooting.

Handgun, holster and minimum 1 magazine, ammo to fit.

Eye, ear protection, clothing for weather, flashlights, chemical light sticks, stools, water….You know the drill.

Brief safety meeting prior to activities.  You will not be allowed to join us after dark for safety reasons.

Stage 4 is…Card Shark, 14 rounds minimum, dealing cards and shooting steel
Stage 5 is Nine is Enough…Two cardboards, 3 mags, 3 rounds each, no makeups
Stage 6 is…Steel Challenge Ala Travis 5 rounds minimum
Stage 7 is… Falling Snow Plate Racks, minimum 6 rounds
(Stages 6&7 two runs, best time scores)
I have added the Falling Plates to Single Stack. Minimum 6 rounds. 2 runs if you want, fastest will count. Rounds minimum 85ish for the match.
